Hosting a Video Session

Ahead of the call

You can ensure that the platform has access to your webcam and microphone by logging into the platform, and clicking the "Test Your Video" link at the bottom of the page.

Be sure that you run the test in the same environment (same device and internet) that you'll be using to hold the video call.

What if there are problems with the call?

If you're experiencing a choppy video call, here are some things you can try.

Ask participants to turn off their video.

There are two small icons at the bottom left of the video screen, with a camera icon and microphone icon. Clicking the camera camera icon will disable your video and should improve the quality of the call.

Ask participants to dial-in to the call.

Under the video screen, there is a phone number and meeting code that can be used to dial in to the meeting. Dialing-in uses the phone network as opposed to the internet network, so is ideal for users who don't have access to a stable internet connection.

Some important notes about dialing-in:

  • Dialing-in limits the quality of the call, so only participants who are experiencing network issues should use this feature.
  • It's possible (and recommended) for 1 participant (e.g.: the guest) to dial in, and the other to use the video platform.
  • Ensure that if participants dial-in, they disconnect (e.g.: refresh the page) or mute (by clicking on the microphone button) the video call - otherwise you might end up hearing a distracting echo.

It still doesn't work

If the above options still don't work, there are a couple of off-platform options to ensure that the call still goes ahead.

Get in touch by telephone

Use the chat feature on the video call page to share phone numbers if you don't already have them, and make the call using the normal telephone network.

Use an alternative video call service

Sometimes, different video call services will have better luck depending on where the calls are taking place. You can quickly create a video call using https://zoom.us, and share the link using the chat feature on the video call page.
